Retrograde Planets in October 2026: Venus, Mercury & Saturn

Three planets are retrograde in the Vedic sky this October — but not all at once for the whole month. Saturn has been retrograde since 27 July and Venus turned retrograde on 3 October. Mercury joins on 24 October, which is the day all three are backward together. Here are the exact dates, what they mean, and which area of your life each one points at.

Retrograde planets in October 2026 (sidereal, Vedic calendar):

Venus — retrograde 3 October, direct 14 November 2026 (starts in Libra, backs into Virgo on 6 November)
Saturn — retrograde 27 July, direct 11 December 2026 (Pisces)
Mercury — retrograde 24 October, direct 13 November 2026 (Libra)

All three are retrograde together from 24 October to 13 November. Jupiter and Mars are direct all month. (Rahu and Ketu are always retrograde.)

The dates are computed to the day from a sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa) ephemeris — the same method Nyovah uses for every chart — and match the station dates published by Drik Panchang, which we checked on 4 October 2026. The degrees below are approximate.

Which of these matters to you depends on your Moon sign and your dasha. Nyovah calculates both free from your birth details.

The October 2026 Retrograde Calendar

Everything that changes in the sky between now and the end of the retrograde window, in date order:

DateWhat happens
3 OctoberVenus turns retrograde in Libra (about 14°)
17 OctoberSun enters Libra
24 OctoberMercury turns retrograde in Libra (about 26°) — Saturn, Venus and Mercury are now all retrograde
31 OctoberJupiter enters Leo (not final — see below)
6 NovemberVenus, still retrograde, backs out of Libra into Virgo
13 NovemberMercury turns direct in Libra (about 10°)
14 NovemberVenus turns direct in Virgo (about 28°)
22 NovemberVenus moves forward from Virgo into Libra
11 DecemberSaturn turns direct in Pisces
13 DecemberJupiter turns retrograde in Leo

Jupiter's Leo entry on 31 October is not its last: it turns retrograde on 13 December and later slips back into Cancer before settling in Leo in 2027. Mars has no retrograde at all in 2026.

What "Retrograde" Actually Means

Retrograde is an optical effect, not a real reversal. A planet never turns around in its orbit; it only appears to move backward against the stars because Earth, on its own orbit, overtakes it or is overtaken by it. Mercury does it about three times a year; Venus only about once every 19 months, which is why a Venus retrograde is the rarer one.

In Vedic astrology a retrograde (vakri) planet is read as stronger and more inward-turned on its own themes, not as broken. For Mercury those themes are communication, contracts, travel details and quick decisions. For Venus they are relationships, money you enjoy spending, and what you value. For Saturn they are duty, structure and long-term consequence.

Why Libra Is the Sign to Watch

Mercury is retrograde in Libra for its entire window, and Venus is retrograde in Libra until it backs into Virgo on 6 November. Libra is the sign Venus rules, so Venus is retrograde in its own sign. Libra is also the sign of partnership and negotiation, which is why this stretch is talked about for relationships, agreements and deals.

What it touches in your life depends on which house Libra is from your Moon sign (not your Sun sign). The table lists all twelve:

Your Moon signLibra is your…Area in focus
Aries7th housePartnerships, marriage, contracts
Taurus6th houseDaily work, health routines, debts
Gemini5th houseChildren, creativity, study
Cancer4th houseHome, mother, peace of mind
Leo3rd houseEffort, siblings, short trips, communication
Virgo2nd houseMoney, speech, family
Libra1st houseYou, your body, how you come across
Scorpio12th houseExpenses, sleep, foreign matters, withdrawal
Sagittarius11th houseIncome, gains, friends and network
Capricorn10th houseCareer, status, public standing
Aquarius9th houseLuck, teachers, long journeys
Pisces8th houseSudden change, shared money, what is hidden

These are the classical themes of each house — a pointer to where attention goes, not a forecast. Your dasha and the natal strength of Mercury and Venus decide how much it matters.

Not sure of your Moon sign? It depends on your exact birth time and place, not your Sun sign. Nyovah calculates it, the house Libra falls in for you, and your current dasha from your birth data.

Saturn: The Slow Background

Saturn is still retrograde in Pisces and does not turn direct until 11 December. It is the long, slow layer under the faster Mercury and Venus stories. If you are in Sade Sati (Moon in Aquarius, Pisces or Aries) or Shani Dhaiya (Moon in Sagittarius or Leo), that is the part of October that is about you, and our Saturn retrograde guide covers it.

What to Do Between 24 October and 13 November

Classical guidance for a retrograde window favours review over initiation:

None of this overrides your own chart. A retrograde matters most if Mercury or Venus rule an important house for you, or you are currently running a Mercury or Venus dasha. If they are minor players in your chart, this window may pass with little to notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which planets are retrograde in October 2026?

Saturn (retrograde since 27 July 2026, in Pisces) and Venus (retrograde since 3 October, in Libra) are retrograde for the whole of October. Mercury joins them on 24 October, in Libra. Jupiter and Mars are direct all month. Rahu and Ketu are always retrograde in the Vedic system, so they are not counted as a station. All dates are sidereal (Vedic).

When does Mercury retrograde start and end in October 2026?

Mercury stations retrograde on 24 October 2026 and stations direct on 13 November 2026, in sidereal Libra throughout. It moves back from about 26 degrees to about 10 degrees of Libra, then goes forward again and enters Scorpio on 2 December.

When is Venus retrograde in 2026?

Venus stations retrograde on 3 October 2026 and stations direct on 14 November 2026 — a window of 42 days. It starts in Libra, backs out into Virgo on 6 November while still retrograde, turns direct in Virgo, and returns to Libra on 22 November.

When do all three retrograde planets overlap?

From 24 October to 13 November 2026. Saturn has been retrograde since 27 July, Venus since 3 October, and Mercury is retrograde between 24 October and 13 November. The overlap ends when Mercury turns direct on 13 November, followed by Venus on 14 November. Saturn stays retrograde until 11 December.

Is Mercury retrograde in October 2026 bad?

Not automatically. In Vedic astrology a retrograde planet is read as turning its attention inward on its own themes — for Mercury, communication, contracts, travel details and decisions made in a hurry. Whether the window matters to you depends on your own chart: which house Libra is from your Moon sign, and which dasha you are running. Classically it favours reviewing and finishing over starting something new.

Which Moon signs feel the Mercury and Venus retrograde most?

Both are retrograde in Libra for most of the window, so the question is which house Libra is from your Moon sign. Libra Moons have it in the 1st house, Aries Moons in the 7th, Cancer Moons in the 4th, Capricorn Moons in the 10th, and so on — the table on this page lists all twelve. The house tells you which area of life is in focus, not what will happen.

Are Jupiter and Mars retrograde in October 2026?

No. Mars has no retrograde motion at all in 2026. Jupiter is direct through October — it enters Leo on 31 October and turns retrograde on 13 December. That Leo entry is not final: Jupiter later slips back into Cancer before settling in Leo in 2027.

Why do other websites show a day or so different?

A station is one real moment, but the calendar date depends on the time zone it is written in. A site using UTC or US time can show the previous or next day compared with Indian time. The dates on this page are in Indian time, in the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac, and match the dates Drik Panchang publishes.
