Adhi Yoga (adhi means chief or supreme) is formed when Jupiter, Venus and Mercury occupy the 6th, 7th and 8th houses counted from the Moon. Count from the Moon's house, not from the ascendant: if the Moon is in the 1st house, the three houses are the 6th, 7th and 8th of the chart. It is classified as a Raj Yoga and read as the yoga of ministers and commanders: leadership, authority, a noble character and gradual victory over rivals.
Exactly What Nyovah Checks
Nyovah finds the Moon's house, works out the 6th, 7th and 8th houses from it, and counts how many of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury sit in any of those three houses. They do not have to be one per house.
| Planets in the 6th, 7th or 8th from the Moon | What Nyovah reports |
|---|---|
| All three of Jupiter, Venus, Mercury | Adhi Yoga, graded very strong (the classical full form) |
| Any two of the three | Adhi Yoga, graded partial, with a note naming the missing planet |
| One or none | No yoga |
Why a partial form at all: the classical statement names all three planets, and some sources describe fewer than three as a lesser, graded result. Nyovah shows the two-planet case on that graded reading, but marks it partial with reduced strength so it is not mistaken for the full yoga. If you want only the three-planet form, look for the "very strong" grade.
How Common Is Each Form?
Each of the three planets has three of the twelve houses that count, so a one-in-four chance. If the three planets moved independently, all three would qualify in about one chart in 64. They do not move independently: Mercury and Venus stay close to the Sun, and therefore to each other, so they often land in the same house window together. In a test run of Nyovah's engine on 4,000 randomly generated birth charts, the full form appeared in about 5% (roughly one in eighteen) and the partial form in about 16% (roughly one in six). The full form is uncommon; the partial one is common.
What Is Not Checked
- Strength of the three planets. There is no combustion or debilitation gate. A combust Mercury or a debilitated Jupiter in these houses still counts. Check each planet's strength yourself.
- The Moon's strength. The yoga is counted from the Moon, but the Moon's own condition is not tested.
- The ascendant version. Some traditions count the same arrangement from the ascendant instead of the Moon. Nyovah counts from the Moon only.
Where Schools Differ
- How many planets. The classical statement names all three. Some sources describe fewer than three as a lesser, graded result (for example two giving a ministerial rather than a kingly outcome). Nyovah follows that graded reading for two planets and labels it partial; it does not report a single planet.
- One per house, or any arrangement. Some readers want one planet in each of the three houses. Nyovah accepts any distribution among them.
- Which planets count. The standard list is Jupiter, Venus and Mercury. Some sources broaden it to the Moon-friendly planets in general; Nyovah uses the three.
When Does Adhi Yoga Deliver?
A formation is not a result. The yoga is expected to show up mainly in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury (and of the Moon, as the reference point), and when transits activate the houses involved. A person can carry it for decades and not feel it until one of those periods begins. The mechanics are in the Vimshottari dasha explained.
The general rule and the missing piece: counting three houses from the Moon is quick. What takes computation is which of the three planets are actually there, whether Mercury or Venus is burnt, how strong each planet is, and the exact dates of the periods in your timeline. For the wider family this belongs to, see Raj Yoga in kundli, and for another Moon-based yoga, Gajakesari Yoga.

See Whether Your Adhi Yoga Is Full or Partial, and When It Runs
Nyovah counts Jupiter, Venus and Mercury in the 6th, 7th and 8th from your Moon, separates the full three-planet yoga from the partial two-planet one and names what is missing, and lays out the dated dasha periods of the planets involved.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Adhi Yoga?
Adhi Yoga is formed when Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are in the 6th, 7th and 8th houses counted from the Moon. It is read as a yoga of leadership, authority and a respected character, with gradual victory over rivals.
How do I check Adhi Yoga in my kundli?
Find the Moon's house, then count the 6th, 7th and 8th houses from it. See how many of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury sit in those three houses. All three is the classical form; Nyovah also reports two as a partial form.
What is the partial Adhi Yoga?
It is the case where two of the three planets are in the 6th, 7th or 8th from the Moon. The classical text names all three, so Nyovah labels two as partial, with reduced strength and a note naming the missing planet.
Is Adhi Yoga rare?
The full three-planet form is uncommon: about 5% of 4,000 random charts in Nyovah's test, roughly one in eighteen. The partial form is common, about 16%.
Do the planets need to be one per house?
Not in Nyovah. Any distribution of the planets among the 6th, 7th and 8th from the Moon counts. Some readers prefer one in each.
Does Nyovah check whether the planets are combust or debilitated?
No. Adhi Yoga has no combustion or debilitation gate in Nyovah, so a combust Mercury or debilitated Jupiter in these houses still counts. Check each planet's strength separately.
When does Adhi Yoga give results?
Mainly in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, and of the Moon as the reference point, and when transits activate the houses involved.
Does Adhi Yoga guarantee a high position?
No. It points to a tendency toward leadership and a respected character, and the partial form is weaker still. The strength of the planets and the rest of the chart decide how much it delivers.
