Dhana means wealth. A Dhana Yoga is a link between the planets that rule the houses of wealth, read to indicate the capacity to earn and to keep money. Two houses carry most of the weight. The 2nd house is accumulated wealth, speech and family resources. The 11th house is income, gains and networks. The lagna lord (the lord of the ascendant) represents the person themselves.
The Three Forms Nyovah Checks
| Form | Condition | Nyovah label and grade |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Gains and savings together | The 2nd lord and the 11th lord are in the same house | Dhana Yoga, graded strong |
| 2. Self and savings together | The lagna lord and the 2nd lord are in the same house | Dhana Yoga (Lagna), graded moderate |
| 3. A strong wealth lord | The 2nd lord, or the 11th lord, is in its own, exalted or moolatrikona sign and in a kendra or trikona | Dhana Yoga (planet name), graded strong, reported for each qualifying lord |
Forms 1 and 2 do not care which house the two planets share. Form 3 is a strength test on a single planet, so it is the only one of the three that checks dignity.
Two Different Planets Are Required
One planet, two jobs. For some ascendants a single planet rules two of the houses in the test: Mercury is both the 2nd and 11th lord for Leo, Jupiter for Aquarius, and Saturn is both the lagna lord and the 2nd lord for Capricorn. A planet is never joined with itself, so Forms 1 and 2 need two different planets in the same house. For those ascendants the relevant form is not triggered automatically; the wealth lord is credited only through Form 3, when it is in its own, exalted or moolatrikona sign in a kendra or trikona.
How Common Is It?
In a test run of Nyovah's engine on 4,000 randomly generated birth charts, at least one Dhana Yoga label appeared in about 36%. The forms separately: Form 1 in about 10%, Form 2 in about 16% and Form 3 in about 15%. So "I have Dhana Yoga" describes more than a third of people and is still a modest statement on its own. The specific version, which lord and how strong, is the useful one.
What the Classical Family Includes That Nyovah Does Not
The classical treatment of wealth yogas is wider than these three forms. In general terms it looks at links between the lords of the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11th houses (the self, savings, and the fortune houses of the 5th and 9th, plus gains). Nyovah's engine checks only the three forms above, so a wealth link through the 5th or 9th lord is not reported as a Dhana Yoga, though other yogas such as Lakshmi Yoga and Raj Yoga cover some of that ground.
What Is Not Checked
- Combustion and debilitation are not tested in Forms 1 and 2. Two linked lords that are both weak still earn the label.
- The house the pair occupies. A 2nd and 11th lord together in a dusthana is reported the same as the pair in a kendra.
- The rest of the chart. A planet that rules both a wealth house and a difficult house is not discounted.
Because the rule is loose, the honest reading is that Dhana Yoga marks which planets and periods are linked to money in your chart, not that wealth is assured.
When Does Dhana Yoga Deliver?
A formation is not a result. Income and savings are expected to move mainly in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of the planets that form the yoga, and when transits activate the 2nd and 11th houses. A person can carry a Dhana Yoga for years and see no change until one of those periods starts. How the periods work is in the Vimshottari dasha explained. If your concern is a financial problem you are in right now, see when will a financial problem end.
The general rule and the missing piece: identifying the 2nd and 11th lords takes a minute. What takes computation is which of the three forms your chart actually has, how strong each planet is, and the exact dates of its Mahadasha and Antardasha. Related income combinations are covered in business success yoga and Chandra Mangala Yoga.
Sources: Nyovah's engine cites BPHS (Ch. 42) for all three forms. Chapter numbering differs between editions and translations.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Dhana Yoga?
Dhana Yoga is a family of wealth combinations based on the lords of the wealth houses, mainly the 2nd (savings) and 11th (gains), and the lagna lord. It is read to indicate the capacity to earn and to keep money.
What are the Dhana Yoga forms in Nyovah?
Three. The 2nd and 11th lords in the same house; the lagna lord and the 2nd lord in the same house; and a 2nd or 11th lord in its own, exalted or moolatrikona sign in a kendra or trikona.
How do I check Dhana Yoga in my kundli?
Find the lords of your 2nd, 11th and 1st houses and see where they sit. If two of them share a house, or the 2nd or 11th lord is strong in its sign and in a kendra or trikona, Nyovah reports the matching form.
Why does Nyovah show Dhana Yoga for so many charts?
Because the rule is loose. About 36% of 4,000 random charts carry at least one label. Forms 1 and 2 need two different planets in the same house; a planet ruling both houses (Mercury for Leo, Jupiter for Aquarius) is not counted as joined with itself.
Does every chart with Dhana Yoga become wealthy?
No. Dhana Yoga marks which planets and periods are linked to money in a chart, not that wealth is assured. Strength of the planets, the rest of the chart and the dasha running all matter.
Does Nyovah check the 5th and 9th lords for wealth yogas?
Not as Dhana Yoga. The classical family includes links among the lords of the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11th, but Nyovah checks only the three forms above. Lakshmi Yoga and Raj Yoga cover some of the rest.
When does Dhana Yoga give results?
Mainly in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of the planets that form it, and when transits activate the 2nd and 11th houses. It can sit unused for years before those periods begin.
Can a weak or combust planet still form Dhana Yoga?
In Forms 1 and 2, yes: Nyovah does not test combustion or debilitation, so the label can appear even when the linked lords are weak. Form 3 does test dignity, so it is the more reliable of the three.
