Chandra Mangala Yoga: Moon and Mars, and What It Does Not Promise

Chandra-Mangala Yoga is sold as a wealth yoga, and it does have a classical wealth reading. It is also a pairing of the planet of feeling with the planet of force, so the same combination is read as a sharp temper. The honest version of this yoga holds both, and also admits that the rule behind it is a plain conjunction with no strength test. Here is the rule, what it skips, and what decides when it matters.

By Nyovah · October 2026 · 6 min read · Matched to Nyovah's engine rule

Chandra-Mangala Yoga (Chandra is the Moon, Mangala is Mars) is formed when the Moon and Mars are in the same house. The classical reading is of income through enterprise: bold ventures, trade, property and ventures where courage and initiative count. The same pairing gives emotional intensity and drive, and the texts and later teachers also note a sharp, sometimes volatile temperament.

Exactly What Nyovah Checks

Nyovah uses whole-sign houses. If the Moon and Mars are in the same sign, and so the same house of the chart, Chandra-Mangala Yoga is reported and graded moderate. That is the whole rule.

QuestionNyovah's rule
Same house?Required. Nothing else is needed.
Close degree conjunction required? No. Any distance within the same sign counts.
Sign strength of the Moon or Mars checked? No. The same label appears whether either planet is exalted, in its own sign or debilitated.
Mars combust? Not used to cancel or downgrade this yoga.
Mutual aspect without conjunction?Not counted.

What this means for you: unlike Gajakesari or Budha-Aditya, this yoga has no suppression gate. The label tells you the Moon and Mars share a house. It does not tell you whether that is a strong or a strained pairing. A Moon in Scorpio (its debilitation sign, and Mars's own sign) or a Mars in Cancer (its debilitation sign, and the Moon's own sign) gets the same label as a comfortable pairing. Check the signs before you trust the name.

How Common Is It?

Mars can sit in any of the twelve houses, so it shares a house with the Moon in about one chart in twelve. When we ran Nyovah's engine on 4,000 randomly generated birth charts, Chandra-Mangala Yoga appeared in about 8%, which matches that arithmetic. It is a modest-frequency formation, not a rarity.

Where Schools Differ

A Note on Mangal Dosha

Mars in certain houses also matters for Mangal Dosha, a separate analysis with its own cancellation rules. Chandra-Mangala is not a Mangal Dosha test, and Mangal Dosha is not a Chandra-Mangala test. If you want to check that side, the Manglik Dosha calculator applies its own layered logic.

When Does Chandra-Mangala Yoga Deliver?

A formation is not a result. The yoga is expected to show up mainly in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of the Moon and Mars (the Moon's Mahadasha is 10 years, Mars's is 7), and when transits activate the house they sit in. A person can carry it for years with no sign of it until one of those periods begins. See the Vimshottari dasha explained for how those periods run, and the Moon and Mars for each planet on its own.

"A yoga is a condition on a chart. A dasha is a date on a calendar."

The general rule and the missing piece: anyone can see the Moon and Mars in one house. What takes computation is which sign they sit in and what that does to each planet, which house they occupy and what it rules for your ascendant, and the dated Moon and Mars periods in your own timeline. For where this fits among income and property combinations, see property yoga and business success yoga.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chandra Mangala Yoga?

Chandra-Mangala Yoga is formed when the Moon and Mars are in the same house. Classically it is read as income through enterprise, bold ventures and property, along with emotional intensity and drive, and sometimes a sharp temper.

How do I check Chandra Mangala Yoga in my kundli?

Look at whether the Moon and Mars sit in the same house of your chart. If they do, the formation exists. Nyovah does not require a close degree, and does not check the strength of either planet for this yoga, so look at their signs separately.

Is Chandra Mangala Yoga a wealth yoga?

It is classified as one, and the classical reading is of earnings through initiative and trade. But it is a tendency, not a guarantee, and it has no built-in strength test, so the signs and houses involved decide how much it can deliver.

Is Chandra Mangala Yoga common?

About one chart in twelve, since Mars can be in any of twelve houses and one of them is the Moon's. Nyovah's engine found it in about 8% of 4,000 random charts.

Does it count if the Moon and Mars only aspect each other?

Schools differ. Some teachers count mutual aspect from opposite houses. Nyovah counts only the Moon and Mars in the same house.

Does Chandra Mangala Yoga cause anger problems?

The combination is read as intensity and a sharp temper as well as drive, but this is a tendency that depends on the signs, the rest of the chart and how the periods run. It is not a verdict about anyone's character.

When does Chandra Mangala Yoga give results?

Mainly in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of the Moon and Mars, and when transits activate the house they occupy. The Moon's Mahadasha lasts 10 years and Mars's lasts 7.

Is Chandra Mangala Yoga the same as Mangal Dosha?

No. Mangal Dosha is a separate analysis of Mars's placement with its own cancellation rules. A chart can have either, both or neither.
