Saraswati Yoga is formed when Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are all placed in kendra, trikona or the 2nd house, with Jupiter in its own, a friendly or its exaltation sign. Exactly What Nyovah Checks
Nyovah counts houses from the ascendant. For each of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury it asks one question: is the planet in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th), a trikona (1st, 5th, 9th) or the 2nd house? If all three answer yes, it then checks Jupiter's sign.

The houses that count are therefore the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th. Jupiter's friendly signs are the signs ruled by the Sun, Moon and Mars, plus its own and exaltation signs.
What is not checked: combustion. Mercury and Venus always stay close to the Sun, so either can be combust, and there is no consensus on whether that spoils the yoga. Nyovah applies no combustion gate, so a combust Mercury or Venus does not by itself suppress the yoga. Check their distance from the Sun separately.
How Common Is It?
Each planet has seven of the twelve houses that count. If the three planets moved independently, all three would qualify in about one chart in five (seven-twelfths cubed). In a test run of Nyovah's engine on 4,000 randomly generated birth charts, the placement was met in about 21%, which matches. After Jupiter's sign test, about 10% were reported as full Saraswati Yoga and about 11% as suppressed. So the full yoga is roughly one chart in ten, and about half of the charts with the placement fail the Jupiter test.
Where Schools Differ
- Combustion. There is no consensus on whether a combust Mercury or Venus spoils the yoga. Nyovah applies no combustion test.
- How strong Jupiter must be. Published statements say own, friendly or exalted sign, and some add that Jupiter should be unafflicted or well placed as well. Nyovah tests the sign only.
- The suppressed form. Some sources would not mention a formation with a weak Jupiter at all. Nyovah shows it as suppressed so the placement is not hidden.
When Does Saraswati Yoga Deliver?
A formation is not a result. The yoga is expected to show up mainly in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, with particular weight on whichever of the three rules the houses of education and speech in your chart.
